For generations, Hispanics have worked to grow and expand opportunities and achieve greater career success for lawyers and the broader community. Today, some might say that after years of progress, advancement has stalled, been diverted in a different direction, or perhaps even been lost while others might feel progress continues apace.

Join us for Hispanic Heritage Month as we engage in an unusual conversation among different generations of leaders in the Hispanic legal community. What did the earlier generations dream about and for what did they work? What was achieved and what was passed on for future generations to address? What do younger generations of Hispanics in the profession dream about now? Are there missing or forgotten lessons and experiences that they want or need from earlier generations? To what do the younger generations of lawyer leaders aspire? Where are they leading the Hispanic legal community? How can others help?

    Speakers:

    • Martin R. Castro, President and CEO, Casa Central
    • Aleida O. Conners, Lead Counsel, Neuromodulation, Medtronic (co-moderator)
    • Iveliz R. Crespo, Director of DEI and Talent Development, Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP (co-moderator)

This panel will focus on some of the most pressing and controversial legal issues affecting the transgender community today. With increasing legislation targeting trans individuals, particularly the youth, and ongoing public debates about sports, healthcare, and public space, this conversation will not shy away from complexity. This panel will offer clarity, compassion, and truth.

    Topics will include:

    • Legal implications of sports bans, bathroom bills, and forced outing policies
    • The impact of recent Supreme Court decisions on trans youth and parental rights
    • The lived experience of trans attorneys in a time of heightened scrutiny
    • How the legal profession can do better, not just in policy but in practice

The goal of the panel will be to humanize, educate, and challenge the harmful assumptions, misleading narratives, and comfort with the status quo. This panel will create space for attendees to leave more informed, more thoughtful, and more accountable.

    • Leah Druckerman, Counsel, Venable LLP
    • August Hieber, Senior Program Manager, Administrative Office of Illinois Courts

Let’s talk about “neurodiversity.”  The term has been around for decades, but many have only the vaguest idea of what it means. Brains that process information differently?  Autism Spectrum Disorder? ADHD? More? In a profession where there is a stigma around disclosing disabilities or mental health challenges, how do we create inclusive environments for neurodiverse attorneys?

    We’ll explore topics including:

    • An understanding of what neurodiversity is (and isn’t)
    • Insights from a neurodiverse law firm partner,
    • Considerations for creating neurodiverse employee resource groups
    • How firms, coworkers and allies can support neurodiverse attorneys

Join us for a Disability Employment Awareness Month webinar with panelists who have unique expertise and experience with neurodiversity and the legal profession.  Bring your curiosity and questions as we explore this important topic.

    • Aaron Baer, Partner and Director of Training and Development, Renno & Co
    • Emilee Silveira, Administrative Coordinator, ofi
    • Lovita Tandy, Partner, Krevolin Horst
    • Monica Adler Werner, LCPC, MA, Monica Werner Counseling
